Omnom Chocolate Reykjavik
Iceland in December means limited daylight hours, so when looking for things to do you need some creativity and a little luck. Perhaps the most pleasant surprise of our entire excursion was finding Omnom Chocolate in Reykjavik. Finding this designer candy company was by complete chance as our entire plan at this point of the trip was to just drive around and get lost. We figured if we drove around with no specific agenda, we'd eventually find something worth stopping for and thus finding ourselves here.
This chocolate company is unlike any one I've ever seen. Omnom Chocolate's packaging, logo, and design are so out-of-the-box, pun intended, that you question whether you're looking at a candy brand or a high class fashion designers hybrid with Willy Wonka. Throughout the airport and other various places throughout Iceland we saw these really cool, hip looking chocolate bars. The name alone was enticing enough to want to buy one of these spendy pieces of chocolate. fate led us driving right by the factory so we decided to stop into the gift shop to see what it was all about.
Not only was the inside of the facility clean and trendy, with windows showing right into the factory kitchen, but the employees were prime examples of why people refer to this country as "Niceland." Although we (unintentionally) showed up with just 20 minutes before closing time, Kyle was more than happy to share with us his knowledge of Omnom Chocolate. He explained the pricing and specials with the products, shared with us how Omnom came to be, answered ALL of our questions, and even shared samples from some of their best sellers including a new kind they were currently working on!
Kyle was extremely friendly and personable which made for our visit to Omnom Chocolate Reykjavik a highlight of the trip for sure! By the time we left it was over an hour past closing time, but not once did he make us feel as if we were any type of nuisance. Being the lost wanders we were, we asked if he had any suggestions for what we should do before we head back to the States and he was more than eager to help us out. By the time we left the factory we had about $300 worth of chocolate, a full itinerary of things to do, and a new friend to stop in and say hi to next time we're there.
I highly recommend skipping the airport gift shops and buy your Omnom Chocolate straight from the source of this deliciousness. It's a neat little place that you won't want to miss out on, plus it's cheaper to buy there than anywhere else!
Our goal to get lost and see what we found paid off for us when we stumbled upon this chocolaty haven. I guess that just goes to show how effective it can be if you..
Just wing it.
